On Aug. 24, Cal State Dominguez Hills held its fifth annual Freshman Convocation on the Activity Field near the gymnasium.
The Dance and Cheer teams performed beforehand, welcoming the freshman class.
“I feel really welcomed,” said freshman Sherry Abbound. “I feel great being on the Dance Team and being a part of an extracurricular activity on campus. I am going with the flow and seeing where it takes me.”
Freshman Angel Hernandez, a biology major, said the first week of school was confusing but he was able to adjust.
“I met a couple of cool people in my week as well,” Hernandez said. “Overall, I’ve enjoyed myself, and I tell everyone to come to this school.”
Besides completing course work, freshman students are also excited for other opportunities on campus.
“I am looking to build new friendships along the way as well,” said Juana Gonzalez, a Spanish and literature major.
President Willie J. Hagan addressed the crowd, as did Provost Michael E. Spagna, Vice President of Student Affairs William Franklin, ASI President Justin Blakely and alumna Sabrina Rivera.
They presented videos of the 2017 graduating class featuring the voices of faculty and students, who explained how they succeeded, and how CSUDH improved their lives and helped them.
The final video sought to give the freshman class hope in starting their new journeys in education. Speakers gave students tips on how CSUDH can help them find and achieve ways to obtain their goals in life.
Students got a chance to go to different tables and learn about different majors. Games and activities were also offered.
