The Women’s Track and Field team looked to continue its stellar season into the CCAA Championships.
Hosted by Chico State, the championship began Thursday May 4 and ended May 8.
With the first days out of the way, the Toros showed promising signs of placing in the top ranks for the year.
Breana Jacobs, freshman, set a new personal best in the Javelin event. Jacobs earned a fifth place mark in the tournament with her throw of 35.45 meters. This is the fourth week in a row where Jacobs has bested her own records. With this last throw in the books she improves her best by almost eight meters.
The 4×100 relay team consisting of juniors, Mariah Walker, Tyrana Beasley, Zefora Kemp and sophomore, Liz Sulaiman finished with a fifth place in the prelims. The team looks to climb closer to the top of the leaderboards in the finals. CSUDH has held the 4×100 CCAA record with a time of 42.46 since 2010.
Beasley also competed in the prelims for the 100 and 200 meter dash. Beasley posted some personal best times in these events running the 100 meter in 12.02 and finishing the 200 meter in 24.55 seconds.
These times earned a fifth and sixth place finish but with only a quarter of a second difference between Beasley and first place finisher, Atiya Harvey, San Francisco State, Beasley has a great opportunity to take the CCAA title in the finals.
Sulaiman is looking to rise up the leaderboard. Sitting in the top 20 with a best of 16-06.25, Sulaiman still has three more attempts in the Women’s long jump to increase her place mark.
