California State University, Dominguez Hills women’s volleyball fell to tenth in the CCAA and ended the season 6-19. The team consistently lost leads in multiple sets, allowed teams to gain major leads on multiple occasions and lost multiple three-game sets, however, throughout the season the Toros showed their fight at every opportunity.
At times, the squad had four freshmen on the court at a time, and Toro fans watched as the team came together as a unit with these new faces on the team. These freshmen led the team in points, kills, and are recognized on a CCAA level with libero Angelina Robles ranking fourth in aces and digs. The CCAA also recently honored freshman Ava Hurry, a recognition given to the top players in the conference.
The veterans of this team are not to be overlooked. Sophomore Jesi Dieckmann led the team with a total of 68 blocks and junior Samaya Royal was not far behind with 54 blocks this season. Junior setter Angelina Cabal facilitated the team all season with 545 assists, which is tenth for all CCAA setters.
Furthermore, an unsung hero is junior outside hitter Shelby Saporetti, who is third in kills and second for points on the team. She is a dependable option at the position and provides a lot to the blocking scheme coming in third amongst the team with 46 blocks.
Coach Jennifer Adeva described this season as a development season. They have a lot of new talent and expect some rocky waves to sail through before they can compete at the top of the division. However, she has faith that next season they will make their power known.
