Jim Maier returned as softball coach in 2019 after a five-year hiatus. That season, he led the team to its first winning record since his departure and the team was 16-8 this spring before the season was cancelled due to the pandemic.

An athletics program that has to wait another six months before teams return to competition is going to have to wait a little longer to find the person who will run it.
A virtual forum to announce the finalists for the athletic director of California State University, Dominguez Hills, scheduled for this week,has been postponed until the spring semester.
According to a member of the university’s Title IX search committee, the reasoning behind the postponement was to ensure students and faculty could fully participate in the forum.
The athletics program has been without an athletic director ince Jeff Falkner, who was hired in 2015, was released earlier this semester. Before Falkner’s hiring,the athletics program had been without a permanent director for two years.
Interim athletic director Dr. Jamie Bouyer is currently leading the program, which has not competed since March 9, when the golf team finished fifth in a field of 13 at the NDNU Invitational in Livermore, California
. The California Collegiate Athletic Association suspended play for all schools immediately after and announced March 18 that all spring sports would be canceled. On May12, following CSU Chancellor Timothy White’s announcement that the majority of fall, 2020 classes would be conducted virtually,the CCAA canceled all fall sports.
In July, the conference announced all fall sports would move to spring 2021;however,last Thursday the CCAA announced the cancellation of competitive sports through the end of the 2020-21 academic year.
