Men’s basketball team wins, women struggle

Men vs. Stanislaus State
The Toros extended their win streak and got their first CCAA victory of the season. The Men’s basketball team was victorious at home against CCAA rivals, Stanislaus State (57-42) which extended their season record to four wins, (4-2 overall).
The Toros were led by senior guard Vincent Golson with 15 points on the night and followed by senior center Justin Sadler, who picked up a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore forward Mikey Hatfield followed with 12 points on the night. Together, all three players combined for 41 points for the Toros.
The Toros shot 35 percent from the field and took away possession 12 of the 16 times Stanislaus went forward. The Toros never trailed Stanislaus at any point in the game, starting with a 12-0 in the opening minutes of the game. Stanislaus did not get their first bucket until the 12:11 mark of the game. Stanislaus got within a 7-point deficit in the final eight minutes of the first half, but the Toros responded with a 16-5 run to triple the lead at the half. The Toros went in to the half with a 32-11 lead.

Women vs. Stanislaus State
The Women’s basketball team extended their losing streak to three in a row with their 53-66 loss at home against Stanislaus State in their first CCAA home game of the season. The Toros now fall 3-5 in their overall record and are 0-1 in CCAA play with their loss to Stanislaus State.
Senior guard Simone Thompson scored 10 points while senior guard Imari Brown grabbed 11 rebounds, but that fell short as the Cal State Dominguez Hills women’s basketball team opened their CCAA regular season title defense with a loss to Stanislaus.
The Toros opened the game well with a 7-1 lead from the start, but the Warriors went on to score 10 consecutive points to take the lead over the Toros and kept in front for the remainder of the game.
Junior forward Jocelyn Diaz and freshman forward Destinee Williams both finished with 8 points on the night. Imari Brown and junior guard Yasmine Tweedy both scored 7 points for the Toros.
The Toros finished the game shooting 31 percent from the field and going 14-17 from the free throw line.
The Warriors were lead by their starters as three of them reached double figures. Reana Hardin lead the Warriors with 17 points and the team ended the game shooting 42 percent.
