CSUDH welcomed new faces on Toro Admit Day on March 7 just before the school went on lockdown. Now, many high school seniors are left uncertain of their future for attending college in fall 2020.

Students from all over the county came to visit this informative excursion and got to see almost every inch of this college right before the school was shut down, making this the last and final event of the semester.

The California State University (CSU) and University of California (UC) system adjusted their admission requirements for future incoming high school students as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, but it has still left students reevaluating their plans to enroll this fall due to financial reasons according to Politico.

Potential incoming freshmen were looking forward to attending CSUDH at Toro Admit Day.

Guadalupe Reyes said she heard great things about the campus so she wanted to check it out in person.

“I couldn’t believe how helpful and hands-on everything was,” she said. “The student body here made it seem like everyone here is welcome.

Reyes also mentioned that other schools did not host helpful events as CSUDH did.

At the event, major representatives in fields such as psychology, chemistry, performing arts, and more had their own booths that briefly discussed what each major consisted of.

Certain colleges did showcases like Natural and Behavioral Sciences: Mathematics and Computer Science offered the opportunity to learn basic coding and programming skills with a hands on interactive activity from students who are majoring in that field.

One incoming student, Cassidy Herrison, was interested in mathematics and computer science said that this activity was very entertaining.

Herrison thought these hands-on activities were an eye opener for what to expect in the major and would recommend everyone to participate in an activity that is related to their major so they can know for sure they are interested.

“I really liked how you get sort of a demonstration of what to expect for that major,” she said. “I had no idea that computer science was actually going to be that difficult.”

The pandemic may have changed the college experience for incoming freshmen, but CSUDH will continue to be here for students. For any questions regarding admissions, contact [email protected] or visit the admissions website here
