Corvalis Cohen, a sophomore and computer science major at California State University, Dominguez Hills will be giving a talk on AI Integrations with Unity and Virtual Production at the GameDevGuild conference, a five-day conference focused on videogame development for anyone interested in finding a career within the industry.
“The GameDevGuild is a five-day completely online event, it features around 40 experts within the game development field and from them, we have a little over 35 talks spread over those five days,” Andreas Gielov, co-founder of the GameDevGuild conference, said. “What’s unique about the GameDevGuild is that…we’ve actually created a full online virtual expo hall where you can walk around with your own little character and then…whenever you walk up to other people you can actually live link with them through camera and microphone and go actually talk to specific people.”

Gielov said speakers submitted their talks beforehand. The team then chose the presenters based on what topics would be of most interest to attendees.
“We want to stay on top of the most relevant topics right now, AI being one of the big ones. We have quite a few talks on AI,” Gielov said. “We thought it’d be a very interesting talk to have at the conference and we reached out to (Cohen).”
Cohen said his talk on AI will be about gaming integrations.
“I’m giving a talk on AI integrations in Unity, the game engine, as well as how those integrations can mix with the concept of virtual production,” Cohen said. “Virtual production is using game engines in order to create cinematics and animations which a lot more movies and the movie industry, in general, are moving toward.”
Gielov stresses the importance of staying updated with the latest happenings in AI advancements and how this conference will help to inform people about the latest in technology.
“It doesn’t matter what type of field you’re in. If you’re in game development, if you’re in journalism, if you’re just a student, it doesn’t really matter, AI is so broad that it’s going to have an impact on everyone,” Gielov said. “Learn how to work with it instead of trying to work against it because AI can be extremely powerful if you do know how to use it properly. I’m looking forward to (Cohen)’s talk and all of the other talks on AI.”
Cohen believes that this conference will be beneficial, not only for computer science majors but for students in any major.
“Computer science [majors] will probably get, arguably the most [benefit] from it but for marketing majors, you’re going to be meeting and greeting with people in the industry, how they set up events like this and they’re super transparent, very able to help. For art majors, you’ll be interacting with fellow artists, fellow designers, and meeting people who are likely the kinds of people who might hire you,” Cohen said. “I’d definitely say it’s a grab bag of information for everyone available.”
