Toros hungry for a totally meatless experience on campus now have a new restaurant option: Compton Vegan. Owner and operator Lemel Durrah opened his spot in the Loker Student Union, right next to the Green Olive.

Diners can expect to find all their favorite classics – sans animal products –  including pulled “pork” sandwiches and “chik’n wingz,” Compton Vegan also has several side items, such as collard greens, mac and “cheese”, and potato salad.

In search of a bodily and spiritual cleanse, Durrah found inspiration for Compton Vegan in the so-called “Daniel Fast” – a 21-day fast observed by some Christians at the start of the year. Durrah found the habit a worthwhile one to continue.

“I felt like a new person,” Durrah said. “The shame, the guilt in all the things I was experiencing prior to that fast… I felt like I had overcome all those things.”
