Cal State Dominguez Hills hosted its annual Earth Day Fair April 20 in front of the Loker Student Union.
The fair was filled with vendors, organizations and clubs that had input on ways students can contribute in their everyday lives to make the planet a better place.
“It’s important schools allow for events like these to inform students,” said Kristina Villicana, 25, a communications major.
Many campus organizations, including the Ecology, Earth Science, Chemistry and Equality clubs, also came out to raise awareness.
Additionally, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) employees passed out system maps containing information on its bus and rail lines and their destinations.
Metro employees encouraged students to “ditch the gas.”
Citizens Climate Lobby, a non-profit organization that focuses on policies that affect climate change, explained how a carbon fee would be beneficial to society to see how much carbon is really being used.
Southern California Edison employees were also present, encouraging students to limit energy use from noon to 6 p.m.
“I love it. The school should have more events like this throughout the year,” said Navia Ramirez, 29, a Chicano/Chicana Studies major.
