Introducing the New Bulletin Staff for Fall 2020

By Yeymy Garcia, Production Editor

Jasmine Nguyen, The Bulletin’s former F2019 Lifestyle Editor and S20 Culture Editor, has been named editor-in-chief for fall 2020.

Nguyen has been attending CSUDH since fall 2016 and has written features and opinion articles for The Bulletin since 2019. Some of her works include “A Different View of Death, Honesty and Family,” “Journey to Freedom,” and “Stop the Inaction: Get Rid of Anti-Blackness in the Asian-American Community.”

“It’s really exciting,” Nguyen said. “I’m looking forward to help expand the paper as editor-in-chief as well as continue the work the former editors laid as a foundation for me. I’m a little nervous, but it’s the fun type of nerves that motivates me.”

One of the former editors that inspired her to take on the role was F2019-S2020 editor-in-chief, Jordan Darling

“Being editor-in-chief was a growing experience as a leader and a writer,” Darling said. “Working with Jasmine was amazing, I watched her grow as a writer and a person. I really cannot wait to see where she goes next, I’m really proud of her and excited to watch her take on the world.”

One of the most important things for Nguyen is the bonding that takes place between staff members.

“I want to make a sense of community in the paper,” Nguyen said. “This is often the first time CSUDH students experience writing and editing so I want to make it a place where people feel comfortable and can grow.”

With the uncertain future of CSUDH on whether or not students will be allowed to come back to campus, Nguyen and The Bulletin staff will continue to put out digital issues as they did the last half of last semester after the campus closed.

“We’ll have our weekly meetings through zoom and connect with our writers and editors through Slack,” Nguyen said. “To foster a closer relationship, we were thinking of doing movie nights and online game nights. It’s a really crazy time to be editor-in-chief, but I’m going to try my best to adapt to the various challenges.”

Nguyen is a current senior and will be graduating in spring 2021. After graduation, she hopes to be a journalist focusing on Asian-American culture and media.
