Associated Students Inc. is looking for students to join its organization for the 2018-2019 year. Applications are due Feb. 5, 2018, in the ASI office which is located in the Loker Student Union room 231.
ASI is the student-run government that promotes leadership, student rights, growth and opportunity for all 15,000 students at CSUDH. It stages numerous events throughout the semester, allowing students to voice their concerns and give back to the CSUDH community.
There are 23 positions available for the executive board, board of directors and liaisons.
The executive board consist of the president, executive vice president, vice president of academic affairs and vice president of finance, all of whom supervise the meetings, represent the student body and university budget committee.
College representatives and commissioners represent the different colleges and CSUDH. They keep the board informed about all student activities, among other duties.
The liaison positions are there to represent the different sectors of the academic senate, student housing, disabled students, alumni, older adult center, multicultural center and athletics.
ASI’s slogan is “Student Dollars at Work.” Every CSUDH student is required to pay $135 fee with their tuition that helps ASI activities and programs such as Toro Tuesday and offering one Scantron per day per student.
Joining ASI can help gain leadership skills and work experience while having opportunities to travel with other colleges to discuss issues and how to improve them, said Daylin Joseph, ASI elections commissioner.
“Working for ASI could be beneficial for resumes because it shows you can manage a budget, chair meetings, manage a commission and put on events,” said Joseph.
