Starting March 1, face coverings will no longer be required in all classrooms and labs on the California State University, Dominguez Hills campus.
“We remain vigilant and committed to our twin north stars of maintaining the campus community’s health and safety while ensuring our students’ success as we continue to evaluate the impact of COVID-19,” Deborah Wallace, vice president of admission and finance and chief financial officer, said in an email sent to the campus community on Feb. 17.
The news comes after the Los Angeles County of Public Health recorded a dramatic decline in COVID-19 cases, deaths and hospitalizations over the last month. According to the Centers for Disease Control, as of Feb. 16, the case rate per 100,000 population is now at 72.02 bringing the county into the “low” community level. In the past week from Feb. 12-18, only 12 cases were reported on the CSUDH campus.
However, while the mandate will be relaxed, face coverings are still required until March 1. To protect students and staff as well, face coverings will continue to be required when visiting the Student Health Center.
“While face coverings will no longer be required in classrooms and labs, you are encouraged to use them to help prevent the spread of COVID-19,” Wallace said.
Free surgical masks will continue to be made available throughout the various mask dispensers on campus. They will still be placed anywhere there is an elevator and or entryways that do not have elevators. For more information and updates visit Toros Together.
