If you’re tired of the usual Subway or Taco Bell for lunch, drive about 10 minutes south of campus to Hiccups Teahouse and Restaurant in Carson.
Situated under a new apartment complex, Hiccups gives off a chill vibe with its wooden and metal décor.
The place has an extensive menu of Asian cuisine — Thai, Chinese and Vietnamese — to meet your cravings. It also has a wide variety of drinks from which to choose: Boba, hot and iced teas, lemonade, coffee, smoothies, slushies, hot milk teas and hot lattes.
The split cup ($5) is a popular choice. Customers can choose from drink combinations, such as Jasmine tea with taro milk tea and Thai milk tea with horchata milk tea.
Thai milk tea ($3.95 for a large) is always a classic choice. Not too much and not too little, Hiccups pours the perfect amount of milk and tea to satisfy your sweet tooth.
The strawberry lemonade ($3.75) has a lemony tart taste but its sourness doesn’t make your mouth pucker.
There are many add-ons available for drinks. You can choose from Boba, extra Boba, whipped cream, flavored jellies and fruit cubes.
The popcorn chicken entrée ($8.95) is served with white rice and a little bit of spring salad, accompanied by sweet and sour and ranch dressings. The chicken is a little salty with a crunch to it. It goes perfectly with the sweet and sour sauce and rice.
The shrimp fried rice entrée ($11.95) is served by itself but the portion is big. It can be shared between two people.
To add to their tasty meals, be prepared to hear some hip music. SZA’s “Ctrl” came on the speakers a couple of times, as did Drake and 2Pac.
Hiccups is located at 552 E. Carson St., #103, in Carson. Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 11 a.m. to midnight Fridays and Saturdays.
